As more and more Network Marketers and MLMers make their way online there is a huge influx of competition online. However, the vast majority of them don’t have a clue how to market their business online.

The basic problem is that most MLM training is still stuck about 10 years ago (the dark ages in technological terms). People are simply trained to take offline strategies online. The Leaders in Network Marketing built their businesses using offline techniques, like newspapers, bandit signs, personal contact marketing, etc. So they don’t actually know enough about internet marketing to train their new members. They teach very simple strategies that are the equivalent of taking the offline strategies online.

Newspaper ads become postings on job sites and paid ads, bandit signs become bandit postings on CraigsList and Facebook. Personal contact can’t be personal because the internet is anonymous, but instead marketers are shown to chase people down on networking sites and forums brandishing their opportunity about the place. They play the numbers game, figuring that for all the people they are pissing off a few will be interested.

The truth is the internet is THE BEST thing that ever happened to network marketing, but because so few people understand how to use it properly they tend to throw money at it thinking that they can at least play the numbers game. This has driven countless people out of business. So the internet is seen as complicated and scary. I remember that when I first got started in this industry people in my business were told to make sure they were getting at least 10 leads a day offline before they looked at online because it was too complicated.

Here’s the key: Online is a whole different ball game than offline. It actually can help you grow your business much more quickly and much more cheaply than offline. You just need to understand how it works.

First of all, online is completely a principles game. True you need the skills to be able to make a website, email, make posts on sites, etc. But you can easily pick up the very basic tech skills you need or even outsource this part, and you absolutely need to understand how to position yourself to stand out from the crowd and attract qualified, interested leads to you.

Principle #1- What are they looking for?
There are three types of people online, those who are looking for entertainment, those who are looking for information, and those who are looking to make a connection.

Now, I’m sure it’s obvious, but in order for you to successfully in your MLM internet network marketing you need to target the Info-seekers and the Connectors, and if you can reach the Info-seeking connectors that’s always best :) .

Principle #2- Give Them What They Want
If your site delivers what people are looking for it means they will stay longer on your site. They will want to learn more from you and will be more interested in hearing about your opportunity. Give the Info-Seekers high quality information and the Connectors, well, connect!

Principal #3- Consistency
Successful internet marketing is like a successful network marketing business. It builds. So if you don’t see a result from your efforts don’t give up after a few days. You need to consistently do it every day. Once traffic to your site and connections in your social networks start to grow, the growth becomes exponential quickly.

Now that you understand the principles, think about how you want to advertise. If you want to place ads on Google just keep in mind that your ads stand a good chance of being clicked on by Bored People out of curiosity. They will click off your site quickly and still cost you money. But if you have a good ad on a keyword that is relevant to what you are offering you can catch the Info-seekers by giving them what they want. Make sure the site you are sending them to from Google has good content for them to read and compelling information that will make them want to learn more from you. Google will also charge you less if they think that you are very relevant to your keyword.

Here’s how I recommend you apply these principles to your business:

-Start a blog using Wordpress. (Blogs rank very quickly on Google, they are user friendly and you don’t have to learn complicated tech skills to use them). This way you can continuously deliver good content in an easy way. Make sure you have your marketing system and a way to capture your traffic. There is no point getting good interested traffic if you don’t have a way to continue the conversation and keep your audience.

-Choose two social networking sites and learn about marketing on them. (In my newsletter you get access to my free internet marketing training site on specific social networking techniques and content marketing). Use them daily and consistently and make real connections.

-Set up a marketing system that will enable you to earn money to keep cashflow coming into your business so you can continue to market as you create an internet presence and voice.

-Use the cashflow to set up a targeted and relevant campaign on Google Adwords.
