In 2008 it grossed just short of a billion dollars in sales, and has been growing steadily every year since it started. As MLM companies go, Melaleuca has a strong reputation and a decent track record which provides stability and confidence for their distributors. However, in a primarily MLM compensation model, it is often best to get involved at the start of a business. By now many of your prospective customers may have heard of the company. Melaleuca Products Review
The Melaleuca products are really what give this company such staying power. Melaleuca being “The Wellness Company” the products are based on having healthier alternatives to your regular household products. This includes cleaners, makeup and skincare, soaps and toiletries, nutrition and vitamins, etc. While I am not a regular customer I do have experience with the Melaleuca product range and have found them very good. Sol-U-Mel is a famous cleaning product and Renew lotion has been irreplaceable over the years. The products are famous for not using harsh chemicals and many of them include T36-C5 Tea Tree oil. If you are health conscious and willing to pay a small amount more to have more environmentally friendly products around the house then these products may be for you. One of the most important components to your success in any MLM is actually loving and using your product. I recommend that you try some of the products out as a customer, if they aren’t something you can get excited about then don’t try to sell them yourself.

Review of the Melaleuca Compensation Plan
The Melaleuca Compensation Plan is straightforward 5×7 matrix. This means you have five places directly below you and can get paid down through 7 levels of your organization. This is fairly common in the network marketing industry, and can be lucrative. The only downside is, as with other companies, in order to qualify for your commission check you have to place a minimum order every month, and this can go up as you hit higher levels within the company. This is not a problem if you enjoy the products and keep a good cashflow for your business until you build your downline and organization up. With this type of organization the only way to make a decent income is to make a huge organization, so you must learn to market your business properly.

This is probably the area where Melaleuca is the most lacking. With a strong focus on products the company has traditionally not been very helpful on marketing training. They traditionally have taught people to show the products to friends and family, have house parties, etc. But to really make money in this opportunity you have to go beyond friends and family as well as be able to train your distributors to do the same. Your training will differ based on your sponsor. However, if you are already with Melaleuca or looking at joining the company there is any easy solution to this problem. I am not, nor have I ever been a distributor of Melaleuca products, however I have used them for years and can show you what you can expect from the products if you choose to join the company.

You are unlikely to get enthusiastic customers unless you are enthusiastic about the products yourself. So what are Melaleuca’s products and are they something you can get behind?

Melaleuca has always been “The Wellness Company” so all their products are based on being either healthy or environmentally friendly. It has over 300 products, many of which contain Tea Tree Oil as an active ingrediant (this is where Melaleuca gets it’s name as tea tree oil comes from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia). Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic, antifungal, and even possibly antiviral. It has been used for many generations as a natural alternative medicine.

What categories do Melaleuca Products fall into?
Melaleuca has several different types of products falling into broader categories:

Home Melaleuca Products
The home products range includes eco-friendly products for all types of cleaning including laundry, dishsoap, dishwasher soap, glass cleaner, basic cleaner, etc. Products names include: LemonBrite, MelaPower, DiamondBrite, etc.

Health Melaleuca Products
Health products often use tea tree oil in them which is supposed to be a very good alternative health treatment for many ailments. The only problem I have found is that the topical ointments and creams smell very strongly of tea tree oil, which is not that appealing to many people. These include pain reliever, vitamins and minerals, antacid tablets, joint aid, immune-support, sun and lip care, etc. Product names include: Pain-a-Trate, Calmacid, CounterAct, etc.

Sports Nutrional/Weightloss Melaleuca Products
This is not a huge range, and as with most weight loss type food does not taste amazing, but is certainly not too bad. Again, the focus is on helping you maintain a healthy diet. There are protein bars, nutrition shakes, organic cookies and crackers, etc. Product names include: Access Bars, Attain Bars, Attain Shakes, Proflex bars, Sustain shakes.

Personal Melaleuca Products
These include bath and shower gels, shampoos, toothpaste, acne wash, deodorant, etc. In my experience this range is very good and smells lovely compared to some of the other Melaleuca Products. The toothpaste admittedly does not taste the best, but if you want your household using products that do not many chemicals etc it is the tradeoff. Product names include: Zapit, Alloy Wash, Body Satin, etc.

Cosmetic Melaleuca Products
The cosmetic range is the Nicole Miller Brand. This includes skin care as well as makeup. It can give you a basic makeup range, and the skin care really is some of the best on the market. If you are very into makeup this range may not be enough for you, but will work well for the average woman.

The bottom line is this. If you are prepared to start using these products in your own household and are ready to replace the leading store brands with Melaleuca products this may be a good company and opportunity for you to take part in. The products will cost a little bit more than your average brands and you do of course have to wait for them to ship, but if you can create a income from the opportunity these costs will be covered.

The one flaw I have found with Melaleuca is with the focus being on products there is very little in the way of decent internet marketing training or marketing plans. They still train people to start with approaching their friends and family, which is why many Melaleuca distributors have ended up with a small check every month.
