So many MLMers only focus on getting leads and recruiting.  While MLM recruiting is absolutely crucial to your business, it’s still important to understand a few MLM secrets that sets apart the real leaders from the people who will always struggle.  Your business will go through several stages of MLM success, but if you ALWAYS remember these 3 MLM secrets you are much more likely to achieve that success and to make your income residual so you can finally live the dream lifestyle.

1. Get Uncomfortable

The most important of all MLM secrets, and the most overlooked!  Every single person who has ever been a success in MLM has had to learn new skills, and guess what, learning new skills is incredibly uncomfortable.  You will find that you sometimes have major drops in confidence, but if you just have the determination to push through and make some mistakes your success is virtually guaranteed!

For you it might be picking up the phone (learn more about MLM prospecting and how to make it easy), it might be being willing to “come out” as a network marketer on your Facebook page, it might be setting up your own websites.

Once you realize that MLM success is DEPENDENT on you feeling uncomfortable sometimes you will welcome it.

For me the most uncomfortable part was getting on the phone!  I had to give myself permission to “scare people off” to make this easier.  I told myself that the first 10 people would find me so ridiculous on the phone that they would run the other way screaming, and that this was part of my journey to success.  (Obviously this isn’t what most people did, but it got me to actually pick up that phone and dial numbers!)

2. Utilize Momentum

When someone signs up in your MLM they are all excited and ready to go.  Use that momentum by giving them a step-by-step plan of attack! Don’t make it too difficult or too challenging.  Assume your leads are basically computer illiterate and lay out an easy path for them to take.  For example, in my team instead of getting new team members to start their own blog or do anything too challenging, we get them to join our team blog.

MLM Lead Generation Ideas for the Newbie

The secret to good lead generation for your MLM is to diversify your techniques.  This way you will be talking to different people from different backgrounds, and can build up a huge leadflow as you go.

 

Offline MLM Lead Generation

If you’re completely new to the business it can be a good idea to start with offline MLM lead generation.  Be prepared to spend a lot of time on the phone as these leads tend not to be as qualified as your online leads, but it’s a great way to get started.  Get yourself an 800 number so that people can call you instead of having to go online.

1.  Warm Market (The not so fun way!)

Let the people in your life know you’ve started a new venture and ask them are they interested in looking at a business.  Most of them wont be, and the ones that do will often not work as hard for success as a lead you generate elsewhere.  Why?  Because they weren’t looking for a business they often don’t have the desire to really make a change in their life!

2.  Drop Cards

These little business cards can be put in books, magazines, car windshield wipers, etc.

3. Newspaper Ads and Magazines

A well placed ad in a quality newspaper will get a bunch of leads, often they are more interested in jobs, so you have to open them up to the idea of a business.  You can get higher quality leads from a nich magazine, but the ads are more expensive.

 

Online MLM Lead Generation

Online MLM lead generation is actually way cheaper and more effective than offline!  The only problem is there is a little bit more of a learning curve so it can take quite a bit longer to see good results!!  It can take up to six months to get good at generating your leads online and at that point a lot of people would have given up!  A great way to do it is to work on learning the skills for effective online MLM lead generation, and using offline techniques to still be growing the business.  If you can stomach waiting 3 to 6 months to get your first check I would suggest simply learning everything there is to know about online MLM lead generation and just going for it 100%.

1. Warm Market (the fun way!)

Put a simple post on Facebook saying you started a new business venture in the xxx Industry and you’re really excited about it.  Ask would anyone be interested in partnering with you and let them have a look at your company presentation.  This is more comfortable and allows those not interested to simply not respond.  Don’t spam your wall with posts, but once every week or two put up a business related post.  You’ll find that as you become successful more friends and family will ask about the business.

2. Social Media

3. Creating a blog

A blog is a great place for people to get to know you and view you as someone who could teach them how to change their life.  You’ll find that if people see you as a leader you don’t have to convince them to join your company.  They will want to work with you regardless of which MLM you are in.  Simply have some connection to a company presentation (that still collects them as a lead you can follow up with) on your blog, and then write about making money from home, how to change your life, etc.

4. Create funnels

MLM Prospecting …The Easy Way!

People make MLM Prospecting incredibly difficult.  They are constantly looking for the best script to “convince” people to join their business, and looking for different ways to overcome objections.  The secret to good MLM prospecting is realizing that you are building a downline and looking for people who will propel your success.  When talking to someone in your MLM prospecting conversation you need to be thinking “how many people can this person bring into my downline”, NOT “how much money can I get from this particular individual”.

There are three things you are looking for in your MLM Prospecting Call:

  1. Has the person got the DESIRE to become a true success, or are they looking for a quick fix?
  2. Do you like the person! Can you see yourself working with them in the long term and enjoying it?
  3. Someone who is willing to work and follow directions! Make sure they are asking you WHAT they need to do to be successful, not WHY they should join!

MLM Prospecting is much easier when you are talking to people who know what the business is!  Learn how to present your company to people who are predisposed to like you and view you as a leader, and get them to register their interest in receiving a call (You can see an example of this process using a High Converting Facebook App Here).  This way your MLM prospecting calls will ALL be with people who’ve actually said they want a call from you!

What To Do During Your MLM Prospecting Call

1. Make it Short

Tell them at the start that it will just be a quick call to see if they need any help getting started.  Remember your time is valuable and you want to talk to as many people as possible.  You can build rapport and show them respect, but still keep it short!  The prospect will feel honoured that you have taken the time to call them, and it will establish you as even more of a leader in their eyes!

2. Let them do the talking

Don’t ignore their questions, but remember this is their decision.  If you try to convince anyone to join your business you will actually be talking them out of it!! Don’t waste time trying to overcome objections, but ask them about what they want from the business.  Ask them how they plan to build it, and if they have no idea let them know that you will be helping them with the “How-To” side of things.  Ask them why they want a home business and allow them to talk.  You’ll find people either talk THEMSELVES into or out of the business.  If they are skeptical and unprepared to work you don’t want them anyway!! You really are looking for leaders here.

3. Don’t panic about their questions

If there’s something they ask that you don’t know, DON’T PANIC! Simply say you don’t know and that you’ll try to find out for them.  People appreciate honesty, not BS.

4. Know when to send them back to the info

If anyone tries to get you to “sell” them on the business, DON’T! No one will be successful at a business unless they’ve sold themselves.  You can’t insert belief into someone else.  If they are trying to get you to sell them simply tell them it sounds like they need to have another look at the information and send them back to your company website.  They can call you if they feel ready to join.

If anyone is rude to you, get them off the phone.  Honestly, you don’t need money from them, and they will only be a burden on your team.  If they come back to you with a different attitude later, that’s fine.  Simply tell them it sounds like they are not sure about the business, send them back to the info and tell them to get in touch with you if they’re ready to have a serious conversation.

5. Don’t be afraid to ask them to join!

When they sound enthusiastic simply say, “Well ***, it sounds like you’re ready to join”.  This is the only sentence you need to include in every MLM prospecting call (at least if you want to work with the person!) If they say Yes, you simply keep them on the phone as you direct them to your sign up page.  If they say No, you simply send them back to the info and tell them to contact you when they’re ready.  No one will mind you making this statement!! If it’s not the case they will correct you, so don’t let fear of their judgement stop you from going for it!

What To Write About On Your MLM Blog

An MLM Blog should be all about variety!

If you are starting an MLM Blog you may be a little unsure what you should write about.  You are probably operating the blog in conjunction with an Attraction Marketing strategy, which means you need to be both focused on traffic and on quality content.  And guess what, different types of content will work for different aims on your MLM Blog.

The 4 Aims of the MLM Blog

1. Drive traffic – A blog is a great way to drive traffic and get in front of people as you can keep adding more and more content daily and Google loves blogs!

2. Keep the traffic – You don’t want people getting to your page deciding it’s not what they wanted and then leaving again instantly this will hurt your chances of ranking on Google (yes, they track EVERYTHING!) but it also means people aren’t getting value from your content.

3. Convert the traffic into leads – The whole point is to capture the traffic so that you can interact with these people again and start building a relationship and getting others to view you as a strong leader.

4. Get leads to turn back into traffic – A lot of people overlook this step, but you really want return visitors to your site.  You want your leads to be coming to your site daily to see what new info there is.  You want to provide them so much value that they eagerly anticipate your next article.  That is really what attraction marketing is all about, and it’s the ultimate achievement of the great MLM blog.

What to Write About on Your MLM Blog?

1. Company reviews, leader reviews, etc – This type of content DRIVES traffic, you can target really high volume keywords and because they’re so specific it’s much easier to rank and get people flowing to your site.  Make sure you aren’t bashing companies or getting into the “my company is better than yours” war, but find a good way to get people to want to sign up as a lead or for your email list after reading your articles.

2. How To’s – Teach people! Make sure you are still targeting specific keywords, but ensure that you are giving step-by-step easy to follow instructions on some specific thing your leads will need to know.  One of my most successful articles is the “How to Blog Tutorial” as it’s very simple, step-by-step and shows people how to set up their own blog in 30 minutes.  This is that content that gets people to sign up as leads and want more from you!

3. Motivational – Any good MLM blog will have some articles that motivate or help build confidence.  This is the type of content that promotes RETURN visitors.  It usually won’t help you get traffic, but it’s the type of thing that will keep someone on your page or returning.

Be careful to have a good balance of content on your MLM blog!  If you are writing 12 articles a week, make it 4 of each! You can never write just company reviews as you won’t get return traffic, you can’t just write How To’s or Motivational as you won’t get much traffic at all in the first place!

Top MLM Blog Tip:

Don’t put your company reviews on your front page!

Your returning traffic does not want to see you review yet another company and it will devalue your blog in their eyes.  If they want to see your company reviews they can search for them on your page.  I use a free WordPress Plugin called “WP Hide Post”.  I can select on each post if I want to hide it on the front page and on Category pages.  This way my front page shows the top content that will get people signing up as leads or coming back, and I can still post as many company reviews as I like without devaluing my MLM Blog!

MLM Secrets: Why do Stupid People Achieve MLM Success?

It’s no secret that the majority of people who start an MLM business fail!  Ok, most people who start any business fail.  Why?

In regular “brick and mortar” businesses most people fail because they have the wrong location, not enough capital, the wrong idea, etc.  There are a million factors that can influence the success or failure of a business.  In MLM there are less factors; just which business you are in, how much you are doing, and how much you are leveraging yourself.

You may have heard of the two major problems in MLM: Lack of leads and lack of cashflow.  Nowadays these problems are easier and easier to overcome.  You can simply learn how to generate free leads if you have a cashflow problem, or you can implement a funded proposal.  If you are using the internet there is no excuse for lack of leads, it’s just a matter of finding out a good strategy for generating leads and implementing it!

So why are so many people still failing in MLM?

MLM secrets: Most people are Wantrepreneurs! (Ok, don’t credit me with this great word, I borrowed it from Tim Ferris).

The majority of MLMers now have such a wealth of good information out there that they keep learning and learning and learning and never implementing!  To be a success you need ot move yourself from Wantrepreneur (someone who is constantly talking about being successful in a business, but never actually trying to make it happen), to being an Entrepreneur.

Why Are “Dumb” people successful?

Ok, not to suggest that most or even many MLM leaders are dumb.  But how many times have you said to yourself, “If Mr. X can do it, I can do it!”… and then you didn’t do it?  I know this happened to me for years before I realized what “Mr. X”‘s secret was: implementation.  You see I THOUGHT I was implementing, but I was missing both consistency and drive!  I was getting stuck trying to make things perfect and never really just working one strategy until I was successful.

Here’s 4 MLM Secrets that will help you move from “Wantrepreneur” to Entrepreneur:

1. Follow the Leader  – Find someone who is having the results you want, find out exactly what they did, and do it yourself! Work every single day at their strategy until you are successful!

2. If in doubt Outsource – Don’t get stuck in set-up mode forever!  If you don’t have the technical ability to set some crucial business element up, pay someone else to do it!  It’s pretty easy these days to set up your own blog and websites using dedicated tools, but if it will take you more than a day or two go on elance.com and pay someone else to do it!

3. Don’t Tweak Until You Have Results – I love tracking for motivation, but don’t let tracking your leads, traffic, and results mean that you are always tweaking your webpages.  This is how people get stuck in the trying to be perfect mode! How many times have you seen some successful person’s blog and said, “That looks TERRIBLE! How are they successful?”  It doesn’t really matter if it’s perfect if you’re not doing the work to drive traffic and results.  Wait until you have some results before you try to change anything.

4.  Learn then Teach!  – A lot of Wantrepreneurs get stuck in learning mode!  You can learn and learn, but if you don’t implement it will mean nothing.  Don’t stop learning, but use what you learn by teaching others.  MLM is all about helping others, so if you can pass on everything you learn, you will learn it better and become more of a leader.

If you’re considering going into business for yourself then network marketing offers the greatest rewards for the least risk!  But you need to ensure you find a company that will help you grow a strong and lucrative business.

1. The Product is Current and Long Lasting

The best network marketing companies always have a product that is current and that everyone wants.  It’s something that everyone can get excited about and isn’t a fad!  The reason health companies have traditionally done well is because there is always a desire to be healthy and to live a better life; therefore the products can be long lastingly popular.  The health supplement companies don’t tend to be the best network marketing companies to join now as there are simply too many of them flooding the market! 2.  The Company is in the Right Stage of Growth

Ideally the best network marketing companies to join will be between one year and five years old.  That’s not to say you should jump out after year 5, but that often people joining the business after 5 years of growth find it more difficult as many people have heard of the company and know what it’s all about.  You never want to join a network marketing company in its first year as statistically it’s likely to fail.  If you can find a company that’s going into a prelaunch for another country that’s absolutely ideal! You get all the excitement of a newly starting company without the risk of it failing as it’s proven itself.

3. The Payplan Rewards the Right Activities

The best network marketing companies have a compensation plan that rewards you for helping your team grow.  If you are looking for long term success in network marketing find a company that allows you to grow a large residual income and that doesn’t limit your growth.  Most payplans have some upfront money worked in, but you want to be sure you can earn money MANY levels down as you help your team build, and that there aren’t any “breakaways” (i.e. once someone in your team is successful they breakaway from your team).  Honestly, I believe the binary MLM plan is the most rewarding payplan and the best network marketing companies out there today all use it!  It is currently generating the biggest checks in the industry.

4. You’ve Found Someone to Work With

It doesn’t really matter how great a network marketing company is if you don’t know how to market it!  You need to make sure you’re signing up under someone who has a strong plan in place to help their team members become a success.  Try to find someone that you feel you can work well with and then get to work!
