The Top Five Network Marketing Books for the Serious Marketer

Before purchasing any network marketing books it’s important to understand that the majority of these books will not give you any how to on marketing, advertising, etc.  They can be great at learning how to prospect, how to talk to people, and how to have the right mindset.  Network marketing books are very often outdated within a year or two as the industry is changing more and more due to the use of the internet!  If you are looking to learn how to market your business online you will need to find online training that is up-to-date.  However, below are several classics that can absolutely help your business.

Network Marketing Books

1. Magnetic Sponsoring by Mike Dillard

This is not a hardcopy book, but if you are looking to see a shift in your network marketing business, this is the ONLY book you absolutely must have.  This ebook completely changed the landscape of network marketing in the past few years, and the people who aren’t implementing the secrets taught in it are being completely left behind!  It will teach you about Attraction Marketing, How to market your business, who to market your business to, how to make money from multiple streams of income, the most important things you can be doing to ensure your success, etc.  I downloaded and read this book in about 3 hours and it COMPLETELY changed the way I do business.  I’ve seen many people finally achieve success due to the lessons in this book alone! This is the only book in the list that I will say, without question, is a must for every serious network marketer!

2.  Your First Year in Network Marketing by Mark Yarnell

This book is a definite classic among network marketing books which is both a good and bad thing.  It’s a bit outdated in that these days most people don’t resort to going to their warm market and prospecting, and coldcalling!  It does give you a good idea of what you need to initially focus on to get your network marketing business up and running. It also will give you a good understanding of the way the industry works and what most people are taught.  Then if you are utilizing Attraction marketing you will better understand the challenges faced by your leads.

3. Beach Money by Jordan Adler

A great book full of useful tips and tricks. It will really help you to get your mind in the right place and cover the mental shifts needed to actually achieve success in the industry.  Like most network marketing books there is not a lot of “How to”, but I do feel that most network marketers will find the book invaluable, and you will no doubt come across one or two tips that will absolutely change your business.

4. Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill

I have never met a single successful home business owner that had not read this book!  It’s not just about mindset, but about how to achieve success in life.  It lays out a simple path to follow and steps to take to ensure that you can reach any goal and dream you have.  While not technically about network marketing you’ll find that all the ideas apply to your business, and any list of network marketing books would not be complete without it!

5. The Business of the 21st Century by Robert Kiyosaki

This is one of those network marketing books that is all about WHY you should do network marketing.  It is still a great book to have in your arsenal as it’s incredibly validating and can help even the most discouraged new business owner with their resolve to make their business work. This really is the business of the future and it’s an industry where those with the most passion and the most determination will win!  It’s also a great book to send to your newest team members to get them started on the right foot.

Network Marketing Recruiting Doesn’t Have to Be Hard!

Most Network Marketers fail because they don’t work the numbers!  The only way to become a success in Network Marketing is to be getting as many people as possible viewing your company presentation.  If no one is even looking at your company, there will be no way to actually recruit!

Network Marketing Recruiting in 4 Steps

1. Write an Article/Make a Video for People Interested in Home Business

This doesn’t have to be long or very involved, but it has to be informative.  It should be something that current home business owners (usually network marketers) and people wanting to go into home business would both be interested in.  Think about what concerns them and what they want to know. (Tip: Most home business people are most interested in HOW to market, advertise, recruit, etc).  If you don’t know anything about the industry, time to start learning!  Don’t get bogged down and let learning keep you from doing your network marketing recruiting! Just write an article about every new thing you learn as you learn it.

2. Link to a STRONG Company Presentation, and give people a reason to view it!

I don’t recommend making your own video about how great your company is, but find a recorded presentation that you are allowed to use that is PROVEN to convert to sales.  You will need to link to this presentation at the bottom of your article, giving people a compelling reason to go view it!  For example, my team’s presentation shows people how to earn money from Facebook, which is a really hot topic at the moment!  So I just need to touch off the idea of them learning how to use Facebook and people LOVE to click my link!

You still want to ensure you are collecting the lead and have a way to follow up with them.  They need to either put in their name and email to watch the presentation, or if you’re using Facebook they will need to approve an app (more people will do this rather than putting in name and email!)  Don’t abuse their email, but follow up with GOOD information!

At the end of your presentation ensure there is both a link for people to sign up for your company (some people do!) as well as a place for them to let you know they would like to learn more.  Most people will not call you!  Instead they will often request a call from you.

3. Drive Traffic

You need to send traffic to your article!  First it needs to be somewhere so people can find it, a great way is to put it up on a blog!  You can start your own blog by following the How to Blog Tutorial.  You can also put it on to an article directory such as ezine articles, or a team blog site (this is usually the fastest and easiest way to get real traffic!)  Learn how to drive traffic using the Three Step Traffic process.

4. Follow Up!

This is the most important stage for network marketing recruiting.  You need to let your prospects know that you will actually be there to help them through the process if they decide to join!  It’s important not to be scared of picking up the phone.  If you have followed this network marketing recruiting method your leads will know who you are, respect you as a leader (your article has already shown them you have industry knowledge), and will have ASKED to learn more!  You don’t have to worry about ackward conversations with suspicious prospects anymore!

With this Network Marketing recruiting strategy the easiest part is the phone call as you’ve done the bulk of the convincing before you ever even speak to your leads!

Start immediately! Remember Network marketing recruiting is all about numbers, it wont happen until you’re driving people to your presentation!  It will be easier to start if you fully understand the process by seeing it in action!

MLM Blog Training: Consistency is King

Now you may have heard the phrase “content is King” before.  This is what most MLM blog training will tell you.  I would definitely argue that point and say content is more like the Prince, and CONSISTENCY is King.

You see your MLM blog will be nothing without traffic, and consistency is what drives traffic.  Consistently updating your blog will help you build your traffic from search engines, social sites, and returning readers.  If you can’t consistently build up content on your blog, I wouldn’t even bother to start one! (Consistency can be once a day, or once a week, depending on how quick you want your traffic).

In this MLM Blog Training we’ll look at how to STAY consistent!

The number one key to consistent work is Tracking.

If you’re not tracking, you are very unlikely to keep up any kind of consistent effort as it takes time to build an income and most people give up when they don’t see money rolling in, in their first month!  Tracking the right things will help as you will be able to see that your efforts DO have a result.  Seeing any kind of result and increase will make you work harder and more consistently.  The problem most people have is that they are only looking at the money as their measure of success, and the money will be the last thing you build and only when you’ve got great traffic.

MLM Blog Training: What to Track?

When thinking of what to track, you need to remember WHY you are working on your MLM blog.  You are trying to do 4 things, in this order:

1. Rank Your Articles on Google (The Affordable link building strategy article can show you how!)
2. Build Traffic to Your Website
3. Generate MLM leads through Your on page opt-ins
4. Make Money!

Step 4 will only happen after you’ve gotten through steps 1-3.  So TRACK where you are in this path so you stay motivated to work until you reach Step 4.

Track the keywords you are targeting to see your pages start to rank on Google page 1.  Track the traffic coming in to your website.  Track the number of leads you are generating (and which pages they are coming from).

MLM Blog Training: How to Track?

You can track where your pages rank on Google in two ways.  One is by searching your keywords and looking for your pages.  This is really time consuming, and frankly not very motivating!  The easier way to do it is to use Market Samurai.  It has a rank tracker where you can add all the keywords you target, you just update it once a day and see your Google rankings for all your keywords.  It’s fun as it also shows the number of backlinks indexed to your pages.

This will help you figure out what ranks well and easily so you can target similar keywords and make your work more efficient.

Track your traffic using Google Analytics and Alexa.  Both are free web-based tools that will help you watch your website traffic grow!  I LOVE Analytics because it shows you a graph of your traffic, and if you work consistently and follow a strong backlinking strategy you will watch the graph go up and up.  It will tell you what keywords are getting clicks, how much time people spend on each article, etc.  It’s great for seeing what is working, again making you more efficient!

Alexa will show you where your site ranks in popularity against ALL sites online!  Expect your website to start out in the millions.  Again, if you’re consistent you’ll see your site drop down the numbers quickly.  You are aiming to get into the top 100,000 (this will take some time, but it’s a fun thing to track as it changes every day!)

If you are using My Lead System Pro, you can track your leads using their tracking code.  Just add “?t=keyword” to the end of your site link (if linking to one of your opt-in pages).  That way you can see which articles are generating your leads!  MLSP also has a great graph that will show you your daily or monthly leads, which again is fun to watch as it goes up!

• Market Samurai (The rank tracker is in the full version, but their trial version is great for keyword research!)
• Google Analytics (You will need to install a special code on your blog after you sign up, I used the Ultimate Google Analytics WordPress plugin because I wasn’t technical enough to figure it out )
• Alexa (If you install their statusbar you will see rankings for all sites on the web in the lower righthand corner of your browser)
• My Lead System Pro (this site will introduce you to MLSP and give you access to their 2 week trial)

MLM Blog Training: Tracking Your Own Work

This won’t motivate you in terms of results, but it will both make you feel good about yourself and make you more likely to do your daily work.  If you’re like most people you won’t want to leave a blank on a Tracker, so you will actually do the work just to be able to write in that you did it!

If you are starting your MLM blog from scratch (and you can learn how at the How to Blog Tutorial)  you will need to start by simply tracking your work until you start to get rankings, traffic, leads, and finally MONEY!

I’ve never seen a better way to market an MLM business, but so many people discount the MLM blog as it takes time to build, they forget that it is building an ASSET that will never go away, and that will keep earning you money and leads for years to come!

Start tracking your work and your results, just keep working, and you will become an MLM success!

The MLM secret the top earners don’t even know they’re using!

Richard Branson has built more than 400 companies, made several world record attempts, raised two children, and started charities.  I don’t know about you, but I find that pretty impressive

So how does Richard Branson have anything to do with an MLM secret?  The principles of success are the same in any business.  You need to have a passionate drive, never quit no matter what is thrown at you, and always work hard until you get there.  And there’s absolutely no point in working hard UNLESS you are working productively (i.e. checking emails doesn’t count as hard work if you’re supposed to be writing articles!)

In Tim Ferriss’ book The 4-Hour Body, Ferriss talks about a visit to Branson’s Necker Island, when Richard Branson was asked about the secret to productivity:

“Branson leaned back and thought for a second…then he broke the silence. ‘Work out.’ He was serious and elaborated: working out gave him at least four additional hours of productive time each day.”

I was shocked when I read that!  Workout?  Won’t that take up more of my time?  Wouldn’t that tire me out?

How does working out make you more productive?

The chemicals you release in your body through working out (and particularly through cardio workouts) do a great deal of good for your body.  Working out has been proven to help reduce stress, improve memory and brain performance, and improve productivity.

Do Top Earners really use this MLM secret?

This is interesting because it’s an MLM secret that most top earners don’t even know they are applying.  People tend to not just improve one area of their life, but many.  When change happens it doesn’t usually mean a change in your bank account but a change in your lifestyle.  Many successful people find themselves working out, eating better, watching less tv, etc.  Even though they have the money and the time to indulge in all the sitting around doing nothing and eating crap that they want to!  Often they start working out on a regular basis for the first time in their lives, and then find themselves becoming more productive and more successful!

How to Apply this MLM secret

Ok, this is obvious…but work out! Try to do about 15 minutes before you sit down to work on your business.  If you have to squeeze your work in after a day at your regular job, go for a quick walk or jog as soon as you get home.  If you’re a stay at home mom consider taking the kids out for a walk or just to run around the back garden.  Dance is a great way to workout as a great song will also help improve your mood and make you feel powerful. Jump around the house to “Eye of the Tiger” !  I also love to hop on the Wii fit and play some games.

Try to make working out fun and not a chore! The more fun it is the more likely you are to do it, and the happier you will be as you sit down to work your business.  Try to carry the feeling of fun and energy into your work.

The Pitfalls of this MLM secret

Don’t overdo it!  You don’t want to end up exhausted and unable to work.  Just get your blood pumping.  If you never work out don’t start by sprinting…maybe have a gentle walk to get the body moving before you start!

Don’t do busy work!  The whole idea is to be productive and you want to ALWAYS be spending your most productive time in money making activities.  You need to always know what to do next so you can sit down and do it, not sit down and try to think of what you should do!

I always plan, plan, plan. Working out should then come just before execution!  Following a proven path with productive work is the best way to guarantee your MLM success!

How does MLM Recruiting work within Attraction Marketing?

MLM recruiting is probably the most confusing area for the new attraction marketer.  More and more people are waking up to the fact that marketing your company directly is a recipe for failure.  To be a success these days you need to market yourself and to attract people to work with you based on your leadership.  (If you don’t know about attraction marketing find out more here: What is Attraction Marketing?)

This all sounds great, but how does it actually work?

How can you fit MLM recruiting into attraction marketing?

1. Using an Attraction Marketing System

This is by far the easiest way to do your MLM recruiting if you are an attraction marketer.  You can use an automated system to set up your websites, to train your prospects (helping them see that you can actually assist them in their success).  You will simply input the details of your MLM business into the back office of the system.  This way anyone who purchases the marketing system will be shown your company as the recommended opportunity.  Any of your leads will be shown your opportunity when going through the training provided.

You will just need to input your website (and it can be a company replicated one in this case) and make a short video suggesting that your prospects learn about this opportunity as it’s a good match with Attraction Marketing.  The system will do the rest automatically.  The only system I know that integrates MLM recruiting seamlessly with attraction marketing is My Lead System Pro (read the full review here).

2. Showing an Example of a Good Presentation

If you’re a bit more tech savvy you can present your opportunity as an example of how to present an opportunity!  Many new Attraction marketers are most unsure about how to do the MLM recruiting aspect.  You can let them know they need to see an example of a good presentation so they know how to present their own company.  (Make sure you either have made a great presentation or can use one that works well from your upline).  I use My Lead System Pro to create a capture page so that I know which of my leads are watching the presentation, you can see an example of how to do this by looking at my company presentation page.  See how I did that ?

I integrate this with my lead follow-up so that people who already know who I am and have gotten good value training from me are then seeing what company I chose!  I also use this page for the “Work directly with me” section of my blog.

Many people will be happy to stay in their own MLM, but some will be ready for a change and just watching your presentation may tip them over the edge.

3.   Sending People Directly to a Presentation

I don’t use this method as much for my MLM recruiting as I find it more impersonal.  The people are viewing your presentation after just reading one article from you, so they don’t know you as well.  But if you’re just starting to do attraction marketing it’s a good way to begin.

You can write articles with a link to a presentation at the end of the article.  Have some way to capture them as a lead before they view the presentation.  I use a team presentation for this that is integrated with Facebook .  It works well as it’s one of the highest converting presentations for my company and it’s one everyone in my team is able to use themselves with no set up (they just add their username to the link)!  This way people get to see a compelling presentation and they know they don’t need to replicate it themselves, they can simply get started and use the same presentation for their own MLM recruiting that converted them!  You can view an example of our Facebook presentation through the Government Approved Money System App.

Don’t try to do your MLM recruiting by poaching! 

Always assume that most of your leads are happy in their MLM business.  But if you truly believe your MLM is the best opportunity other people will see that too.  In attraction marketing you are relying on curiousity for your MLM recruiting (as people get to know your training they become curious to see what company you chose!)

Provide people every opportunity to see your presentation without forcing them.  Don’t spend lots of time trying to convince others to join you, but let them come to you.  If you are displaying strong leadership and providing several opportunities for prospects to learn about your company many will eventually join you!

The Final Stage of MLM Recruiting: The Sign Up

Once someone expresses their interest the best thing you can do is call them!  They will know you very well at this stage as they have been following your training, and they also will know about your business from watching your presentations.  You can answer their questions and let them know you will actually be helping them personally.  Tell them what to do next.  Walk them through the sign up process over the phone, or send them the sign-up link (provided by your company).  Then get them started right away.  The faster you help your team become successful in their own MLM recruiting, the faster you earn residual income!

MLM Success Doesn’t Have to Be Hard!

Joining an MLM business is a very exciting and confusing time!  You need to learn new skills and abilities to become a true success so that you can quit your job, work from home, enjoy your family, and live your dream life.

There are four stages everyone moves through on their way to success in this business.  By understanding them you can ensure you move to stage 4 as quickly as possible!

Reach MLM success Fast by identifying what stage you are currently at, and how to move on quickly!

1. What the Heck Am I Doing?

You’ve just joined your business with big dreams of MLM success and you’re raring to go.  You know you don’t want to just pitch your business to your friends and family, you want to actually make it big! You want to be the next big MLM success story, so you decide to market your business online.  Great choice!  But now what?

You realize you need to set up a website, create a lead capture system, drive traffic to your website, etc.  There are a bunch of techie set-up activities that are frankly confusing!

Ok, a bunch of people fall off at this stage because they become overwhelmed and confused, they run out of money and they quit!

Get through this stage as FAST as possible.  Make it as simple as you can by finding someone who can give you direct instructions on what you need, and more importantly what you DON’T need.  Too many people waste time in set-up and never get off the ground.  Get your system set up so you can move on to stage 2.

2. Work, work, work!

Most people really underestimate how much work it will take to become an MLM success.  For some reason people think it will be easy money!  The truth is, it is easy money, but only later on.  You first need to build a big organization that earns money for you.  No one expects a brick and mortar business to be easy and make a fortune straight off the bat, so why would you expect your MLM business to be?

The truth is every MLM success story starts with a lot of passion that drives people to work hard until they achieve success.  This doesn’t mean you have to be a slave, but the harder you work, the FASTER you will achieve MLM success!

Expect to spend at least 1-2 hours per day on your business for 3-6 months before you reach the next stage.  If you can spend more time you will get there faster.

Again, you will make this stage go more quickly by following a proven MLM success and marketing strategy.  You don’t want to waste time figuring out what to do, but spend the time doing it!

Most people quit before they ever reach stage 3 of MLM success!

3. Creating Leaders

Most new MLMers don’t even realize this stage exists!  They think they will go from nothing to sitting back watching other people make them money in no time.

Here’s the deal, unless you are showing people how to become an MLM success themselves, you aren’t ever going to have a downline that makes you money.  Expect everyone who joins your business to fail, UNLESS you train them.  This doesn’t mean hand-holding them.  But provide them with all the knowledge you can, make sure they know the 4 stages of MLM success themselves so they can push through stages one and two.  Don’t sugar coat things and make people think they won’t need to work, because when the reality sets in you will lose them!

Don’t be afraid to push people towards their own success, but let them choose their own path.  There is no blueprint one way to become an MLM success.  They will need to find their own voice and their own strategies so that they become leaders. You can help them do this by ensuring they have access to up-to-date industry training (the best tool for this is My Lead System Pro)

Expect to spend at least the second 6 months to a year in this stage.  You will be earning big money, but you will still need to work to keep that income coming in.  Your focus will shift from marketing to developing your team and finding ways to make it easier and easier for them to move from stage 1 towards stage 3.

It’s when your team members become LEADERS that you really start to earn huge amounts of residual income!

4. Sipping Margaritas on the Beach

Once you have established strong leaders (possibly about two years into your business) you finally do get to wind down.  Obviously 1-2 hours a day isn’t exactly tough, but you can comfortably take a back seat from here and only work a day or two a week.  Allow your leaders to step forward and help others on your team.  Create an environment where your team members can mastermind and help each other toward MLM success.

You can spend less time on the phone and hand off your leads to your team-members.  You can comfortably step back knowing that your team will keep moving as you have taken the time to build momentum.

Don’t forget, when you stop completely (i.e. no work at all) your team may in fact eventually dry up!  I’ve seen people take a year out here and there no problem.  All it takes is an hour or two a week to maybe do a webinar training with the team.  They simply need to know you are still there supporting them and they stay motivated.

MLM success is not hard,  frankly it’s the best way to live the dream lifestyle, but you NEED to make sure you keep working until you get there and don’t quit too soon.

STAGE 2 is the most important to your business!  He who works the hardest (using an actual marketing strategy, not trying to do everything at once!) wins!

It really is that simple.
